TWITTER

A recommended twitter background

Must say, not only have I never attempted to understand why people use twitter, but also don't really understand the value either in monetary terms.

It's in the news today that the service is worth $14bn...and how they arrive at the figure is that the share price is $26 with 70m shares on the market.

How rich can individuals get?  I mean, the British economy is in default at the moment; so why can't a government get things off the ground economically when Ev Williams, one of the co-founders of Twitter, owns 59.6 million shares and will add $1.47bn to his fortune from the sale? And why can't they do something really useful with the money they earn like invest a chunk of it in education or health or homes for the indigenous elderly? Money invested could become the analgesic for a lot of pain people suffer through poverty.

Anyhow, I just don't see the value in the Twitter generation when we have so many modes of communication that amply suit the needs of most in text, email, facebook or...phone calls.  And who really wants to know about some nobody's opinion about an obscure event they drunkenly attended or what caused them to puke up their lunch or how a dog's turd gets a twist on the end?

Out of interest, I decided to read some current tweets. The best ones I came across: Closed my account today: One can't help thinking that the human race has lost sight of what is really important and valuable: and Shitter.

Choose to remain twitter-free!
