NEW YEAR

Blackbird on Holy Isle

A strange new year's day. Temperature at 15C in Edinburgh and high, dry winds make it seem as if it's an early spring day. Arthur's seat is crowded and the cairn at the top doesn't afford enough room for the climbers. A line of tiny black figures along the topmost ridge serate the skyline above.

No ice yet on Dunsappie loch and the swans and ducks are happily paddling around, the mallard drakes chasing the hens.

Susma has sent her brother to our house with a bag containing chapatis, a savoury potato dish and a not too-palatable-looking bean dish.

Most of our time seems to be spent eating during the festive season. We are doing a retreat with Donal Creedon on Zoom. Also following a Ringu Tulku Rinpoche teaching on his archive site given in 2012 at the monastery Dzogchen Beara.

This evening, the world seems to be at peace. Indicative of the calm before the storm?
