Do you trust Google?
The director of Google's engineering Ray Kurzweil, a futurologist, says that within the next 15-years computers will be able to outsmart us. Eh...I may be mistaken, but I thought that was already the case.
Kurzweil did predict correctly that a computer would be capable of beating Garry Kasparov at chess. IBM's Deep Blue did the business. But is that surprising? I don't think so. A computer has the capacity to outdo humans on a mathematical predictive matrix. The definition of a matrix is a rectangular array of quantities or expressions in rows and coluns that is treated as a single entity and maniulated according to particular rules (Oxford Dictionary). That seems to fit the bill and a computer is certainly not lacking in the those skills.
But the guy is a whizz at predictions. He did foresee that that the internet would link up the whole world. He points out that Apple has voice recognition software which allows the operator to talk to computers. Now, Google is pioneering self-driving cars. Kurzweil now predicts. according to his theory of singularity - a point in the future where there is a convergence of humans and machines.
What then? Will our children enter some kind of partnership with a like-minded robot who is programmed to understand them? Or is that already happening?
I think it is!
