Today we had an early morning walk along a bridle path
through thick jungle and across a weir.
The sun was strong enough to cause the mist to rise from piles of grass
and weeds in the cold air. We seem to be
far away from the rain. We came to a
clearing where there was an incongruous sight of a fire station, locked and
eerily quiet. Why it was there in the middle of the forest I don’t know, unless
it was to serve the local farmers.
The way ended at a main highway and carried on across the
road. We decided to turn back at this point.
Albany town centre felt like a small town, reminiscent of a hick town in Kansas or Tennessee. Old men were sat around outside the stores looking like second or third generation Ausies, eating bread and watching the world go by. Although it was winter, the weather was quite warm and dry with some of the locals in t-shirts and shorts.
In search of an internet connection, we went to the local
library. The librarian there suggested a couple of internet cafés, Macdonald’s
being one. The other was a franchise
called the Dome. We had come across
these in Mandurah and decided to go there for some decent coffee. For two-coffees we were given one and a half
hours internet access. Sent a few emails and checked face book but apart from
complaints about the rain, very little seemed to be happening back home.
