Last evening in our riverside retreat as Fulmaya makes an
omelette and rice with some butternut squash, or “butter squash nut” as she
calls it. Today we took a circular route
from Denmark and got lost only twice, an improvement on our poor road sense
this trip.
We took the Scotsdale Road and passed so many wineries. This industry seems to be the most
popular. But so many farms were also up for
sale as if the farmers were being pushed out of business or their children had
maybe left for the cities and work.
As with many of the habitations, we came across strange
sculptures like the ones below:
Eventually, we stopped for food at The Lakehouse. We hadn’t passed anyone on the road, yet the
car park was quite full and people were sitting inside eating and
drinking. The restaurant was at the side
of a small lake and sold all kinds of jams and other edibles as well as wines. We had a taster platter between us and then
tasted some of their wines. The most
peculiarly named was He Says She Says
with two-cartoon characters male and female on the label. I told the saleslady that the name must have
come from a Beatles’ song, but by the look she gave me I doubt if she had heard
of the Beatles. Anyway, we bought
four-bottles of the house wine, two-red and two-white for pressies.
We drove on and down to Greens Pool, a sheltered harbour much used in
the summer according to the photos on the information board. The water was that turquoise colour that you
find all over the coast waters and the sand was flat as it is on all the beaches
we had visited. I have never seen the
ripples on the sand you get on the beaches around Scotland. As it had started raining, we didn’t get to
see Elephant Rocks or the curiously named Madfish Bay.
Back to Denmark and planning a trip back for tomorrow.
