WINTER GARDEN

In the back garden there are magpies, pigeons and what I think are blackbirds.  At least, they are birds that are black but that's as far as my ornithological knowledge goes.  I have the same trouble with plant recognition as I do with flighted species.  One autumn, an old friend, Dan Cavin, took me around some paths near Balnain at the head of Loch Ness and pointed out the name of trees.  He may as well have used the Latin designations for all I could remember.

Now the weather is mild and there is little sign that it's going to snow. Raining every day in the afternoons and evenings but shoppers still go about their business on a spending spree before Christmas.
